Mairi Markaki was born in Athens with her family originally from Emprosneros Apokoronou, Chania, Crete.
She is a graduate of Stirling in International Business & Public Relations and from Saint George College in Business Administration & Public Relations, also holder of Proficiency of Cambridge University diplomas in English and Sorbonne II in French.
Royal Academy of Dance in London: Dance Instruction and Choreography.
She studied in the Department of Choreography and attended Choreography Courses, Jazz Dance and special courses in Musical Theater & Creative Dance as well as special courses on the science of Teaching Dance, at the Royal Academy of Dance (London Headquarters.)
She stays current with the Royal Academy of Dance, regarding new methods and trends in dance
For 7 years she was a performer with the Dance Group of the "Dora Stratos Theater,” the lead dancer in the Cretan Dances and other regions of Greece.
She has taught in many seminars and dance groups in and outside of Greece, presenting in addition to the dances, the folklore for her native island Crete .
She is a founder and serves as a dance teacher the Folklore Research Association "The Naiades" - dance groups for Children, Teenagers and Adults who have distinguished themselves and have participated in important events in Greece and abroad. The Naiades have made trips to Belgium, France, Italy, Germany, the Czech Republic and Morocco (in the King's palace) and important appearances in Athens such as the framing of the end of the Olympic Games in 2004 and the End of the World Wrestling Championship in 2002 , participation in the Herodeion , the Lykavitos, the Theater of Rocks, the Katrakeio Theater and in concerts with G. Dalara, X. Alexiou, Glykeria P. Thalassino, B. Tserto, Ger. Andreato and others
Mairi was responsible for a team of 150 dancers at the 2004 Olympic Games , which she supervised throughout their presence at the opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympic Games.
She has taught Greek Dances in Clubs & Public Schools with over 500 students a year. The two Public Schools that she choreographed in Modern and Latin American Dance Choreographies won the 1st and 2nd prize at the Zografou Municipality Carnival in 2006 (Schools: 1st prize in the 1st & 19th Primary Schools of Zografou and 2nd prize in 10th Primary School of Zografou), in 2007, she choreographed the above schools and the Folklore Research Society "The Naiades" and they won 2nd prize (money) the Society "The Naiades" and 3rd prize to the 10th Primary School of Zografou (the 1st and 19th ended up not participating due to rain), in 2008 the two schools she choreographed got 1st prize the 1st & 19th Zografou Primary Schools and 3rd prize the 10th Zografou Primary School, in 2009 I choreographed only the 10th Zografou Primary School which was awarded again (3rd place ) and the same school was awarded in 2010 with the 2nd prize.
She has made costumes and procured items for use Apokries customs such as for the Boules, Soho, Skyros and costumes for other customs such as Theros and Twelve Days.
I have presented the results of two of my studies ( Study of women's and men's Cretan costume from the time of Nikiforos Phokas to the present day) in the mass media and they were even presented in the news of the largest Greek television channels, Mega and Antenna channels.
I am a member of DOLT and CID , with which I have been participating since 1988 until today in World Conferences addressed to Folklorists , Dance and Music Teachers from all over the World
